Indian Embassy inaugurates 1st One District One Product Week

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 22: Embassy of India in Kuwait organized a state facilitation event focusing on the state of Uttar Pradesh with the Inauguration of the One District One Product (ODOP) Week on Feb 21, 2022. The event is part of the celebration of the week-long festival titled “Namaste Kuwait” organized by the embassy on the occasion of National Day of Kuwait.

The Ambassador of India to Kuwait HE Sibi George, in his remarks, highlighted the rich history and India’s civilizational heritage originating in the State of Uttar Pradesh, which is leading in exports of handicrafts, processed food, engineering goods, carpets, ready-made garments and leather products manufactured locally and generating huge employment. The event focused on ODOP scheme launched by Uttar Pradesh government in 2018 with the aim of creating productspecific traditional industrial hubs across 75 districts of UP. Smita Patil, First Secretary (Political & Commerce) made a presentation detailing the objective and focus of ODOP in UP, highlighting the diversity of crafts, sustainability and export potential of the products.

An exhibition with display of select ODOP items was also organized, which included a variety of products such as Lucknowi chikankari, brass products from etah, Murafabad metal crafts, Banarasi sarees, zari zardozi, marble inlay artefacts, etc. The event was concluded with musical performances of folk songs and ghazals from Uttar Pradesh by Indian artistes in Kuwait. The event was streamed live on embassy social media platforms, which saw participation of large numbers of community members. This is the first of many ODOP promotional activities to be organized by the embassy.
