India tops medals list in Asian championship held in Kuwait

Indian youth athletes shine in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: The 35-member Indian contingent which competed in the 2022 Asian Youth Athletics Championship (the fourth edition of the biennial athletics competition for Asian athletes aged 15 to 17) at the Al Kuwait Kaifan Stadium in Kuwait City from Oct 13 to 16 topped the list of medals table with six gold medals, 11 silver and seven bronze. India had finished in second place in the previous edition held in 2019 in Hong Kong. In the 2022 edition, Kuldeep Kumar won India’s first medal, a bronze in the boys’ pole vault.

He cleared a personal best effort of 4.80m. Also, India’s first gold medal was won by Akash Yadav in the boys’ shot put with an effort of 19.37m. In the team event in Girls’ medley relay India walked away with gold and also in Boys’ medley relay India again won the gold medal
