India Suspends TRP Reports Over TV Channels Spreading Panic and Sensationalizing News

NEW DELHI, Mar. 6: The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed the immediate suspension of Television Rating Points (TRPs) for News TV channels, citing concerns over sensationalism and speculative reporting amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

The Ministry noted that certain news channels have been broadcasting content that could create unnecessary panic among the public, particularly for those with friends, family, or personal connections in the affected areas.

In response, the Ministry has instructed M/s BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) to withhold TRP reporting for all News TV channels for a period of four weeks or until further notice, whichever comes first. The move is aimed at promoting responsible journalism and safeguarding public interest during sensitive developments in the region.
