NEW DELHI, Apr 8: India is set to receive a shipment of Iranian crude oil this week for the first time in seven years, according to ship-tracking data from market intelligence firms cited by Reuters.
The data, compiled by LSEG and Kpler, indicates that the cargo is part of a broader shift in oil flows following the temporary easing of sanctions on Iranian oil and refined petroleum products.
The move comes as the United States reportedly allowed limited flexibility in sanctions enforcement to address global supply constraints linked to disruptions in the Middle East.
According to India’s oil ministry, refiners had recently resumed purchases of Iranian crude as regional instability and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz impacted alternative supply routes and raised concerns over energy security.
The development marks a potential shift in India’s crude sourcing strategy after years of restricted imports due to sanctions pressure on Iran.
