India Plans Relief Flights from Jeddah for Stranded Indian Passengers

NEW DELHI, Mar 3: India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said it is closely monitoring the evolving airspace situation across parts of the Middle East and its impact on international flight operations, as airlines adjust schedules to ensure passenger safety.

In an operational update issued by Press Information Bureau (PIB Delhi) late Sunday, the ministry said Indian carriers have undertaken calibrated adjustments to their flight schedules. Long-haul and ultra long-haul services are being progressively rerouted through alternative paths to avoid restricted airspace, while aircraft and crew repositioning measures are underway to maintain operational stability.

The ministry said special arrangements are being made to facilitate stranded passengers. Airlines are deploying additional capacity where required and coordinating closely with foreign aviation authorities as well as Indian diplomatic missions abroad to ensure safe and orderly movement.

Low-cost carrier IndiGo has planned 10 special relief flights from Jeddah to India on March 3, subject to regulatory approvals and prevailing airspace conditions. The airline is coordinating with the Consulate General of India, Jeddah to assist affected passengers.

Foreign airlines operating between India and Gulf destinations are also conducting limited operations, depending on operational and airspace considerations, the ministry said.

Passenger safety remains paramount, and all airlines have been advised to maintain transparent communication with travelers and comply fully with regulatory requirements concerning refunds, rescheduling, and passenger assistance. Travelers have been urged to check flight status directly with their respective airlines and avoid relying solely on unofficial sources.

The situation was reviewed at a high-level meeting chaired by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and attended by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and senior officials.

The ministry said it remains in continuous coordination with airlines, airport operators, regulatory authorities, and the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure safe operations, orderly restoration of services, and assistance to affected passengers.

Further updates will be issued as necessary.
