KUWAIT CITY, Oct 24: The Embassy of India in Kuwait, in association with ARMS4U, organised a tree plantation drive at Rawda Park on Saturday under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (Plant a Tree in Honour of Mother) campaign, marking 65 years of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait.

The event brought together Kuwaiti dignitaries, resident ambassadors, diplomats, members of the Indian community, families and schoolchildren, including students from Carmel School, to promote environmental protection and encourage collective efforts towards building a greener and more sustainable Kuwait.

Addressing the gathering, Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Paramita Tripathi highlighted the significance of the campaign, which honours mothers while recognising the importance of protecting Mother Earth. She said the initiative connects gratitude towards mothers, who nurture and care for their children, with the responsibility to preserve the natural environment that sustains all life.

Launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5, 2024, on the occasion of World Environment Day, the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign encourages people to plant trees in honour of their mothers and as a tribute to Mother Nature. The initiative has since been taken up across India and in several countries, including Kuwait.

H.E. Tripathi said the participation of Kuwaiti friends, Indian community members, and children reflected the spirit of togetherness that defines India-Kuwait relations. She noted that environmental protection transcends nationalities and brings people closer through a shared commitment to the planet.

Emphasising the role of young people, the ambassador said that involving children in tree planting helps them understand that protecting nature is not merely an obligation but a lifelong commitment. The saplings planted today, she said, would grow alongside their hopes and aspirations, reminding them that even small actions can make a lasting difference.

Referring to Kuwait’s dry desert environment, Tripathi stressed that every tree planted represents a meaningful contribution towards a greener future. Trees provide shade, improve air quality, support biodiversity and help sustain life, making tree planting particularly important in countries facing challenging environmental conditions.

The ambassador also linked the initiative to the 65th anniversary of India-Kuwait diplomatic relations, expressing hope that the friendship between the two countries would continue to deepen and flourish, just as the trees planted during the event take root and grow.

She expressed appreciation to the Kuwaiti authorities and friends, ARMS4U, Carmel School and its students, participating families, Indian community members and the media for their support in making the event possible.

The plantation drive highlighted the shared commitment of India and Kuwait to environmental sustainability while providing an opportunity to strengthen people-to-people ties through community participation in a common cause.

The Embassy of India thanked ARMS4U for its cooperation in organising the event and encouraged further community-led initiatives under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign to contribute to a greener and more sustainable Kuwait.
