NEW DELHI, Nov 3: India has confirmed the death of one of its nationals following an attack on the commercial vessel MSV AL JUSUFI near Limah, Oman, while 13 other Indian crew members were rescued.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian government said 14 Indian nationals were aboard the vessel when it came under attack on Monday evening. Thirteen were rescued, while one Indian national succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.

"We convey our deepest condolences on the precious life lost," the ministry said.

The Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities to arrange the early repatriation of the rescued Indian nationals and the mortal remains of the deceased.

Expressing serious concern over continuing attacks on commercial shipping in the region, India called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions and the conclusion of ongoing negotiations to achieve a diplomatic solution.

The ministry stressed that attacks targeting commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure must stop, while calling for the earliest restoration of free and unimpeded navigation and commercial activity through international waterways in the region, in accordance with international law.

India reiterated that peace and stability in the region can only be restored through diplomatic efforts and an end to attacks on civilian and commercial targets.
