NEW DELHI, Jun 24: India on Wednesday urged its citizens to continue avoiding non-essential travel to Iran, saying it is closely monitoring the security situation despite recent signs of improvement following a diplomatic breakthrough between Tehran and Washington.
In a revised travel advisory, the Indian Embassy in Iran said that while the overall situation has shown positive developments, Indian nationals should refrain from non-essential visits to the country until further notice.
“Notwithstanding the recent improvements, Indian nationals are advised to continue to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran until further notice,” the embassy said in a statement.
The mission also advised Indians currently residing in Iran, as well as those travelling for unavoidable reasons, to exercise a high degree of caution, remain vigilant, and maintain constant awareness of their surroundings.
New Delhi further urged its citizens to closely follow official updates and developments related to the regional security environment.
The advisory comes after Iran and the United States announced on June 14 that they had reached a 14-point agreement, brokered by Pakistan, aimed at ending hostilities and resolving outstanding disputes through dialogue and negotiations.
The memorandum, known as the Islamabad Understanding, officially came into force on June 18 after being electronically signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump.
The agreement reportedly includes measures to end the conflict, facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, lift the US naval blockade imposed on Iran, and address issues linked to regional tensions, including the situation in Lebanon.
India's latest advisory reflects a cautious approach as authorities assess whether the recent diplomatic progress will translate into lasting stability in the region.
