AUSTRALIA, Nov 11, (Agencies): A daring encounter unfolded when Australian cattle producer Colin Deveraux faced off with a crocodile and lived to tell the tale. Deveraux, on his way to work on fencing near the Finniss River, encountered the aggressive reptile by a lake. Observing peculiar fish behavior, he approached and was suddenly attacked, with the crocodile latching onto his right foot.

Recalling the intense struggle, Deveraux described the crocodile's forceful shake, pulling him into the water. Determined not to succumb, the farmer fought back vigorously, kicking the creature in the ribs and even attempting to bite it. In a stroke of luck, his teeth accidentally caught the crocodile's eyelid, prompting the creature to release its grip.

Despite the brevity of the encounter, lasting only about eight seconds, that brief moment allowed Deveraux to escape. He swiftly leapt away, covering the distance to his car with the crocodile in pursuit for a short distance before giving up.

Although Deveraux successfully evaded further danger, he suffered an open wound on his right leg from the crocodile bite. Quick thinking led him to fashion a makeshift tourniquet using a towel and rope to stem the bleeding. His brother eventually reached him, transporting him 80 miles north to Royal Darwin Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment for the past month.

The severity of the wound was exacerbated by infection from the murky waters in which the crocodile had emerged. Despite the challenging recovery, Deveraux considered himself fortunate that the crocodile targeted his leg, acknowledging the potential for much graver consequences if the attack had occurred elsewhere.
