KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14: Flower and gift shops received large numbers of customers on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. For this reason, the latest designs in gifts and bouquets of roses, which are predominantly red, have been prepared on this particular day, as is usual in the month of February every year, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to workers of flower shops, among the top varieties of roses sold on this day are red roses, which are imported from countries such as Egypt, India and the Netherlands. The volume of sales of this type of rose during Valentine’s Day is about 2,500 per store. Also, about 90 percent of sales are for rose bouquets accompanied by gifts and chocolates.

Preparations for this day are not limited to buying flowers and gifts, as even restaurants, hotels and cafes have a share. They compete with each other to attract customers and provide new food items at competitive prices. A dinner for two may cost up to KD 70 in a restaurant, while overnight stay in a hotel can cost up to KD 150 for a couple.

Many customers resort to ordering online, as they do not have time to go to the shops and search for the best. Rose prices rise depending on the shop, its location, and the designs. The sources revealed that online orders for flower bouquets on Valentine’s Day represent about 70 percent of the volume of orders, with the option of delivery with the order, adding that the price of a bouquet starts from KD 5 and can reach up to KD 140.
