KUWAIT CITY, June 5: MP Marzouq Al-Khalifa forwarded queries to Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali about the decision of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to impose fees on passengers at Kuwait International Airport — KD3 for departures and KD2 for arrivals — starting from June 1, 2021. He asked if these fees are applicable to the citizens and expatriates, the additional services for passengers which could be the reason for imposing such fees, and if the Legal Advice and Legislation Department was consulted in this regard. He requested for a copy of the department’s opinion, if any.

Al-Khalifa also forwarded queries to Minister of State for Municipality Affairs and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Shaya Abdulrahman Al-Shaya regarding decision number 913 that the Cabinet issued on July 20, 2020 for the Kuwait Municipality to allocate plots for establishing residential cities for expatriate workers. He wants to know if the Municipal Council approved the decision of the Municipality branch in Jahra to allocate three sites for the establishment of such residential cities — North Jahra, West Pilgrims City and South Mutla’a City measuring 150,000 square meters each. He asked if the security authorities were consulted to determine their capacity to control chaos that might occur in such areas.

Meanwhile, the 31 MPs Bloc recently announced their intention to seek an audience with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to personally convey their message about the current crisis between the National Assembly and government. MP Mehalhal Al-Mudaf stressed that the MPs remain firm in their stand to reject the decision to postpone deliberations on the grilling motions against His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al- Khalid until the end of the second round of the current parliamentary term. He said this is not subject to negotiation, because it will give the government power to request for postponement of grilling motions against ministers as well. He argued this decision is tantamount to amending the Constitution, which will never be approved. MP Osama Al-Menawer also asked Al-Shaya about the delayed distribution of housing plots in South Saad Al- Abdullah and Al Mutla’a and action taken against the contractors who caused the delay. In addition, MP Ahmed Al-Hamad submitted a proposal for the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) to construct houses and flats, which will be granted to Kuwaiti divorced women and widows who have children with their former or deceased husbands. He explained his proposal aims to protect these women from the anomalous practices of real estate brokers and to help them save money allotted for renting a house.
