KUWAIT CITY, May 25: The much-anticipated two-year sporting extravaganza, the IDAK KDD Sports Championship 2026–27, organised by the Indian Dentists' Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK), commenced this weekend with tremendous enthusiasm, athletic spirit, and vibrant community participation.

The opening event, held at the ARGAN Bedaya community center in Sabah Al-Salem, featured thrilling events in men’s volleyball, women’s throwball, and exciting children's events, including dodgeball for participants below 10 years and throwball for those aged 10 years and above.

The three powerhouse teams of IDAK— Gryphons, Pegasus, and Sphinx — displayed exceptional competitiveness, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day at the event.

The championship was formally inaugurated by IDAK President Dr. Shalin Anna Simon, General Secretary Dr. Dilip George, and Past President Dr. George P. Alex by the ceremonial display of the team flags. The Sports Committee, headed by Dr. Samit Mohanan along with Co-Chair Dr. Asheel Mohammed and committee members Dr. Rahul Puthalath, Dr. Renjit George, Dr. Joju V. George, Dr. Anjana C.Nair, and Dr. Revathi Sanjeev, successfully coordinated the event with the support of KDD and Al Mulla Exchange.

The day's events began with the women’s throwball tournament, followed by the men’s volleyball matches, attracting enthusiastic crowds of families, supporters, and members who passionately cheered for their teams. The atmosphere came alive with a vibrant flashmob performance led by Dr. Parvathy Rajkumar, Chair of the Cultural Committee, electrifying the crowd and adding a burst of energy and excitement to the celebrations.

After a series of closely contested games that showcased a spectacular display of grit and determination, the Gryphons, led by Dr. Ashwin Sudheesh and Sphinx, captained by Dr. Faraaz Khan, emerged as the joint champions in the men’s volleyball category, while Pegasus, under the leadership of Dr. Deepak Chembil Menon, secured the runner-up position.

The women’s throwball event saw Pegasus emerge victorious under the leadership of Dr. Jane John Thomas, while Gryphons, captained by Dr. Sharon Jojy, finished in the runner-up position.

Standout performances by Dr.Karthi Manoharan earned him the title of the best player in men’s volleyball, and Dr. Sushma Shenoy took home the best player honors in the women’s throwball event.

The matches were officiated by Dr. Shyam for women’s throwball and Mr. Vishnu for men’s volleyball.

IDAK President Dr. Shalin Anna Simon presented the champions' trophy to the victorious women’s team of Pegasus, while General Secretary Dr. Dilip George handed over the runner-up trophy to the ladies of the Gryphons team. For the men’s volleyball segment, KDD's Manager of Business Systems, Mr. Anand Harith, presented the winners' trophy to captains Dr. Ashwin and Dr. Faraaz Khan, while Mr. Siva Ganesh, Assistant Manager of Marketing at Al Mulla Exchange, presented the runners-up trophy to team Pegasus.

The event also featured medal distribution ceremonies for children participating in dodgeball and throwball competitions, adding joy and excitement to the celebrations.

With enthusiastic cheers, spirited performances, and memorable sporting highlights, the IDAK KDD Sports Championship 2026–27 has kicked off on a spectacular note, setting the stage for an exciting and fiercely competitive sporting season ahead.
