DOHA, Qatar, Oct 22: The IDAK Cricket Team returned from the Qatar Healthcare Cricket Cup 2025, played in Doha from October 16 to 20, with a celebrated top-four finish and a haul of individual awards, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship on an international platform.
Competing in a ten-team tournament featuring healthcare organizations from across the GCC and India, the IDAK squad, proudly sponsored by Grand Hyper, delivered a powerful performance throughout the league stage. Under the strategic leadership of Captain Dr. Mohammad Hussain and Vice Captain Dr. Rahul Puthalath, the team qualified for the semi-finals as the top-ranked team from their group.
The team's campaign culminated in a hard-fought semi-final match against the eventual champion, Qatar Doctors Cricket Club. Despite the physical challenge of playing their third match within 18 hours, the IDAK team battled valiantly, only narrowly missing a spot in the finals.
"The team's performance was nothing short of inspirational," IDAK President Dr. George P Alex stated. "They represented our alliance with immense pride and resilience against all odds, embodying the true spirit of cricket."
Its efforts were richly rewarded, with the team earning the Fair Play Award and the Best Participating Team Award. Individual brilliance was also recognized, with the team securing the Best Fielder Award and two Man of the Match awards across their three games.
Captain Dr. Mohammad Hussain led from the front, anchoring the innings with a classy half-century in a crucial league game. Vice Captain Dr. Rahul Puthalath provided magnificent support, delivering a match-winning 4-wicket burst with the ball. Key performances came from Nithin Sam Varghese for his all-around prowess, and Syam Madhusudan, who set the tone for the tournament with a spectacular 5-wicket haul in the opening match. Dr. Shabaz was impeccable behind the stumps, earning him the Best Fielder of the Tournament accolade.
IDAK extends its gratitude to the behind-the-scenes contributors, Dr. Asheel Mohammad and Dr. Ashwin Sudesh. The unwavering support from the IDAK Council, Sports Committee, and the Executive Committee was equally instrumental to the team's success.
General Secretary Dr. Jijan Sam Thomas also thanked Al Mulla Exchange Company, Grand Hyper, Qatar Indian Doctors Club, the players' spouses, families, and the entire IDAK fraternity for their steadfast support, which kept the IDAK flag flying high in both victory and defeat.
