WASHINGTON, Sept 24: In a prestigious international recognition, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) awarded the State of Kuwait a certificate of appreciation for its achievements in building an effective civil aviation security oversight system and enhancing compliance with ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
The honor was presented during the 42nd ICAO Assembly, currently being held from September 23 to October 3 in Montreal, Canada. The high-level gathering brings together representatives from 193 member states and 69 international and regional organizations concerned with civil aviation, global trade, and the aviation industry — including major aircraft manufacturers.
Leading Kuwait’s delegation at the assembly is Sheikh Engineer Humoud Mubarak Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, President of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA). During the event, he received the certificate on behalf of the State of Kuwait, a testament to the country’s successful efforts in strengthening its aviation security systems.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sheikh Humoud Al-Sabah extended his heartfelt congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as well as to the government, people of Kuwait, and all civil aviation employees for this significant international honor.
“This recognition — represented by the President of the Council’s certificate — reflects Kuwait International Airport’s outstanding performance in exceeding international standards, as confirmed by the periodic and official ICAO security audits conducted on member states,” Sheikh Humoud stated.
He emphasized Kuwait’s strong commitment to active participation in international forums and close cooperation with all ICAO member states. He reiterated Kuwait’s dedication to supporting global efforts aimed at enhancing aviation security, safety, sustainability, and the overall development of the sector in the service of the international community.
Additionally, Sheikh Humoud wished success to all Arab and friendly countries participating in the upcoming ICAO Council elections, which will be held during the course of the assembly.
The Assembly’s agenda includes key global issues facing the civil aviation sector, notably the adoption of ICAO’s budget, strategies for enhancing aviation security and safety, improving air navigation systems, and shaping future regulatory frameworks to bolster efficiency and sustainability in international aviation.
The session will also include the election of ICAO Council members for the next three years, along with the selection of the Assembly’s chairperson.
