IAEA Says No Increase in Radiation Levels After Strike on Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Site

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 4: The International Atomic Energy Agency said it has been informed by Iran that a projectile struck near the premises of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Saturday morning, marking the fourth such incident in recent weeks.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi expressed deep concern over the incident, stressing that nuclear power plants and surrounding areas must never be targeted under any circumstances, as auxiliary structures may contain critical safety equipment essential for plant operations. The agency added that it continues to monitor the situation closely amid rising concerns over repeated incidents near sensitive nuclear facilities.

According to the agency, Iranian authorities reported that a building at the site was affected by shockwaves and fragments from the strike, and that a member of the plant’s physical protection staff was killed by projectile debris. Despite the impact, no increase in radiation levels has been detected, the IAEA confirmed.
