IAEA Confirms Reported Strike on Iran’s Ardakan Facility; No Radiation Increase Detected

TEHRAN, Mar 27: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it has been informed by Iran that the Shahid Rezayee Nejad Yellowcake Production Facility in Ardakan, Yazd province, was attacked on Friday.

The agency confirmed that, according to initial assessments, there has been no increase in off-site radiation levels following the incident. The IAEA added that it is currently reviewing the report and gathering further information on the extent of the damage.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reiterated his call for military restraint, warning that continued strikes on nuclear-related facilities risk escalating tensions and could endanger nuclear safety.

The yellowcake facility, which is part of Iran’s uranium processing chain, was reportedly targeted in the latest wave of strikes amid ongoing regional hostilities. The IAEA stressed that while no radiological impact has been detected so far, any attack on nuclear-linked infrastructure requires careful monitoring due to potential safety risks.

The agency continues to remain in contact with Iranian authorities as the situation develops
