KUWAIT CITY, Feb 7: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi emphasized the importance of investing in human capital as the cornerstone of sustainable healthcare development, indicating this can be done by empowering doctors and specialists, keeping them informed about the latest international protocols, transferring expertise, and promoting evidence-based professional practices. Al-Awadhi made the statement at the opening of the 25th Kuwait Ophthalmology Conference.

The three-day conference was organized by Kuwait Ophthalmological Society, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and Middle East and Africa Council of Ophthalmology, with the president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in attendance. He pointed out that the continuous success of the conference for 25 consecutive years is a reflection of the vision of the Health Ministry to fully support the medical field and its commitment to establish an integrated healthcare system based on knowledge, scientific research and nonstop training

He confirmed that the ministry is focusing on the field of ophthalmology, which has contributed to expanding the provision of treatment and surgical services in various governorates. He said this includes encouraging leading international experts to participate in performing complex surgeries, as well as training national staff on the latest surgical techniques. He added that this move positively impacted the quality of healthcare services and reduced the need for treatment abroad. He revealed that the institutional cooperation between the Council of Ophthalmology Departments, Overseas Treatment Department and the Medical Stores Department at the ministry led to the provision of corneas as a sustainable reserve. He said this enabled the performance of corneal transplants in the ophthalmology departments at the ministry, according to the internationally recognized medical standards

He asserted that scientific conferences are considered a platform for exchanging expertise, integrating perspectives, and translating scientific outputs into applicable health policies and implementation programs that contribute to raising the level of healthcare services and enhancing the quality of life in the community. On the other hand, Chairman of the Conference Dr. Ahmed Al-Foudari disclosed that ophthalmologists, researchers and healthcare professionals from around the world are participating in the conference to advance eye care, drive scientific innovation, and improve the patients’ quality of life. He said the conference features more than 76 international speakers, 12 workshops and 116 scientific lectures, proving its continuous growth and expansion while highlighting excellence in education, scientific research and clinical practice. It is worth noting that the conference includes symposiums, workshops, live debates, case presentations, and updates on the rapid changes and expansions in ophthalmology.
