LOS ANGELES, Jan 30: DC Universe welcomes a new addition as Milly Alcock, the breakout star of “House of the Dragon,” secures the role of Supergirl in the upcoming film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” according to DC Studios CEO James Gunn’s Instagram post on Monday.

Sharing a screenshot from Deadline’s article, Gunn expressed his excitement about Alcock joining the DC Universe, praising her talent and enthusiasm for the role. He mentioned being initially impressed with her performance in “House of the Dragon” but was further convinced through auditions and screen tests for the Supergirl character.

In response to Gunn’s announcement, Alcock, who debuted on television in 2014, shared the post on her Instagram Story with an enthusiastic “Ahhh thank you” in all-caps.

Representatives for Warner Bros. have not yet responded to inquiries from USA TODAY seeking comment.

Alcock, 23, gained prominence as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon.” Her portrayal of the character added to her growing list of roles, marking a significant step in her career.

The role of Supergirl has been previously portrayed by actresses like Melissa Benoist in the CBS and CW series “Supergirl” and Sasha Calle in the 2023 film “The Flash.”

James Gunn is currently working on “Superman: Legacy,” featuring Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and David Corenswet (the DC Universe’s new Superman). The film is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
