Hossam Hassan extends Egypt contract through 2030

CAIRO, Sept 2: Hossam Hassan will remain in charge of Egypt’s national team until 2030 after the Egyptian Football Association extended his contract, rewarding the coach for guiding the Pharaohs to a historic World Cup campaign.

The 60-year-old led Egypt to their first-ever World Cup victory, a group-stage win over New Zealand, before the team narrowly lost 3-2 to Argentina in the round of 16. Argentina later advanced to the final.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed the extension following a meeting to finalize the new agreement. The federation had already approved the contract renewal in July and formed a committee to review its duration and terms.

Hassan, who guided Egypt to the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, had previously said that he and his brother Ibrahim Hassan, the national team director, had been working without contracts since February 2026.

Egypt’s all-time leading scorer took charge of the national team in February 2024 and guided them to their first World Cup appearance in eight years.

Hassan also made history as the first Egyptian to represent his country at the World Cup, both as a player and a coach.

Under his leadership, Egypt reached the knockout stage after drawing with Belgium and Iran and defeating New Zealand in the group phase.
