HORROR ON THE HILL IN INDIA: Teen Jumps, Father Falls Saving Him, Mother Follows

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR, Aug 22: What began as a desperate three-hour attempt to save a troubled teenager ended in unimaginable tragedy Friday, when an 18-year-old boy and both his parents plunged to their deaths from a hilltop in Maharashtra — one after the other — as horrified onlookers watched helplessly.

It seems a young boy had bought an iPhone on EMI and was asking his parents for money to pay the instalments. After an argument with his father over the payment, the 18-year-old boy went to Khavdya Dongar near Tisgaon and threatened to take his own life.

"I am going to jump," he kept telling them.

For nearly three hours, his parents, villagers, police and others pleaded with him to come back. His mother kept asking him to think about his future and his family. But eventually, his father went closer to him in an attempt to pull him away from the edge. Both lost their balance and fell into the gorge. Moments later, the mother, who witnessed her husband and son fall, also fell from the hill. All three lost their lives.

Then, in a matter of moments, everything collapsed.

A Family Destroyed in Seconds

It all began around 10 a.m. when the 18-year-old, a resident of the Devlai area, walked to the edge of the hill and threatened to take his own life.

For nearly three hours, his mother, villagers, and even police officials on the scene pleaded with him to reconsider. They urged him to think about his future, his family, his parents. Nothing worked.

His father, who had initially been pleading from below, climbed the hill during the final 15-20 minutes in a last, desperate attempt to reach his son.

At around 1 p.m., as the teenager moved dangerously close to the edge, the father lunged forward to grab him. But in a horrifying turn, the two lost their balance — and fell together.

Moments later, the panic-stricken mother, witnessing the nightmare unfold before her eyes, also fell from the hill.

All three died.

'The Mother Kept Pleading with Him Not to Jump'

The entire ordeal was captured on video by tourists and locals who had gathered at the site, their cameras rolling as a family's worst moment played out in real time.

Eyewitness Sanjay Jadhav said the parents and others made repeated, desperate attempts to save the teenager.

"The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn't listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officials were also there," Jadhav said.

"The mother kept pleading with him not to jump," he added.

Police officials present at the spot also tried to persuade the teenager to move away from the edge, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.

A Tragedy That Shook Onlookers

What makes the incident even more devastating is the sequence of events — a father trying to save his son, a mother unable to bear the sight, and a family erased in seconds while bystanders could only watch.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager's threats is underway.

The tragedy has left the local community in shock, with many questioning whether more could have been done to prevent the outcome.
