RIYADH, Oct 1: The Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen said a Houthi drone targeted the Taibah electricity distribution station in Madinah early Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Malki said the attack occurred at 5:11 am, adding that an investigation and evidence collected by the competent authorities, including an examination of the drone wreckage and an after-action review, confirmed what the coalition described as the Houthi militia's involvement in planning and carrying out the attack.
According to Al-Malki, the attack caused one power transformer to be taken out of service, but did not affect the wider electricity network. He said the targeted facility is a civilian power station that provides electricity to the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah.
Al-Malki described the incident as part of what he called continued Houthi attempts to target Makkah and Madinah, saying the coalition would continue implementing measures to deter the group and protect the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of pilgrims in the two cities.
The statement reflects the coalition's account of the incident and its attribution of responsibility to the Houthis.
