MANILA, Philippines, Oct 6, (Agencies): The Philippine men's 5x5 basketball squad clinched the coveted gold medal at the 19th Asian Games, capping a thrilling final showdown against Jordan with a final score of 70-60. The electrifying match unfolded on a Friday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in China.
Once again, it was Justin Brownlee who led the charge for Gilas Pilipinas, amassing an impressive 20 points along with 10 rebounds. The game was a nail-biter in the early stages, but the Philippines managed to break away during the third quarter, securing a comfortable 51-41 lead.
Jordan made a valiant effort to mount a comeback in the final quarter, but Gilas stood firm, making crucial defensive stops that ultimately sealed the victory. Chris Newsome chipped in with 13 points, while Scottie Thompson contributed 11 points and five rebounds, fortifying the Philippines' performance on the court.
