LONDON, Nov 9, (Agencies): Henry Aldridge and Son Ltd, a renowned British auction house, has revealed plans to auction various Titanic artifacts on Saturday, offering a fresh start for pieces with a storied history. Among the items set for auction is a first-class menu dated April 11, approximately three days before the tragic sinking of the ocean liner in 1912.

Recovered from the depths of the ocean, the water-stained yet legible menu showcases the opulent offerings available at the time. The selections included first-class entrées such as “Salmon Hollandaise” and “Squab à la Godard,” alongside dessert options like “Apricots Bordaloue” and “Victoria Pudding.”

This particular menu stands out as a rarity, with the auction house confirming its uniqueness after consulting with Titanic collections in museums and speaking to memorabilia collectors. No other first-class menus for the night of April 11 have been found, adding to its historical significance.

The discovery was made in a photo album belonging to Len Stephenson, a community historian from Nova Scotia, Canada. Nova Scotia played a crucial role in the aftermath of the Titanic tragedy, serving as the location where the recovered bodies were taken.

While the origin of Stephenson’s acquisition remains a mystery, auctioneer Andrew Aldridge remarked, “Sadly, Len has taken the secret of how he acquired this menu to the grave with him.”

The menu is anticipated to fetch between £50,000 and £70,000 (approximately $86,000) in the upcoming auction, offering enthusiasts and collectors a chance to own a unique piece of Titanic history.
