KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: A routine arrival at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing turned into a security case after officers discovered a child allegedly hidden inside a citizen’s vehicle in an attempt to bring him into Kuwait illegally.
According to a security source, the Kuwaiti citizen, who is in his forties, arrived at the border and presented eight official documents to officers — one for himself and the rest for his wife, children, and domestic worker. However, when border personnel counted the passengers inside the vehicle, they noticed that something did not add up.
The vehicle had eight passengers in addition to the driver, but officers later found another child concealed under the feet of the passengers, bringing the total number of passengers to nine, excluding the driver.
The citizen reportedly tried to convince officers that the hidden child was his son and claimed that the child’s civil ID had been lost while they were in a neighboring country. His explanation, however, failed to persuade the border authorities.
Further checks raised more suspicion after officers discovered that the child was officially registered as having left Kuwait only a few days earlier. That meant the child’s records showed him as being outside the country, while he was physically found inside a vehicle entering Kuwait.
The source said the citizen could have informed border officials about the child’s situation directly. Instead, by presenting documents for the other passengers while allegedly concealing the child, he exposed himself to legal accountability.
The man was referred to the Public Prosecution on charges of attempting to smuggle a child into the country illegally. Investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances of the case.
