Hezbollah trying to derail Lebanon-Israel peace efforts

WASHINGTON, May 6: US State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott accused Hezbollah of trying to “derail” peace efforts between Lebanon and Israel, as renewed Israeli strikes and cross-border attacks raised doubts over a US-brokered ceasefire.

Pigott said Hezbollah was attempting to undermine those efforts “both by launching attacks inside Israel and through threats within Lebanon.”

“No one is downplaying the challenges ahead. No one is saying this is going to be easy,” Pigott told Al Jazeera. “But the US is focused on creating the conditions for good-faith conversations” between the Lebanese and Israeli governments, he added.
