Health Ministry Campaign targets insect, rodent infestations

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 26: The Pest and Rodent Control Department at the Ministry of Health set up its second environmental health awareness pavilion for 2026 at the Avenues Mall, with the theme, “Prevention is better than cure,” reports Al-Seyassah daily. Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr. Al- Mundhir Al-Hasawi attended the event. Head of the department Dr. Fatima Al-Draiweesh pointed out that environmental health is a shared societal responsibility, indicating that the pavilion focused on raising awareness about reducing the causes of insect and rodent infestations and pollution, and promoting recycling and good environmental practices.

She said the pavilion showcased the field efforts of the department in maintaining environmental health from November 2023 to July 2026. She revealed that these efforts included monitoring and addressing thousands of environmental observations, in cooperation with the public health service departments in various health districts and the relevant institutions. She disclosed that the services of the department are available 24/7 through the Ministry of Health hotline number 151, by selecting option 6, in addition to the services available on ‘Salem’ application.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health is expected to award the consultancy services contract for the Salwa Health Center project in the third quarter of 2026, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting a source familiar with the project. The Ministry of Health issued the tender on March 8 and the deadline for submitting bids was extended from April 7 to April 28. The contract covers the study, design and supervision services for the construction of a specialized health center in Salwa. The source hinted that the consultancy contract will be awarded in September and the project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027.
