KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: Barely days after a similar vehicle theft case involving an Asian expatriate had been closed, another shocking incident unfolded, echoing the same audacious scenario. This time, the victim, an Asian expatriate, reported to the Salmiya police station that he had left his 2010 Japanese car running outside the Salmiya Cooperative Society while he went inside for less than four minutes. Upon returning, he discovered the car had vanished.
Authorities quickly registered a case of vehicle theft and issued a traffic violation to the expatriate. Investigators traced the incident to a suspect — a government employee working at a service center. Video footage captured him committing the theft, and when confronted, he confessed. According to his statement, he found the car running, took it for a short time, and then abandoned it. When asked about its whereabouts, he claimed he could not remember, even though the theft had occurred less than a week earlier.
The suspect was immediately referred to the competent authority for legal action, underscoring the boldness of the crime and the swift response by the police in tracking down a government employee committing theft in broad daylight.
