Handball transfer frenzy: Al-Qurain and Al-Fahaheel make key signings

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: In the final hours leading to the closure of the second registration and transfer period, significant player movements characterized the handball teams. Al-Qurain Club, gearing up for the current year’s league, announced the acquisition of Serbian professionals Nikola Skrupek and Slovakian Oliver Rabic. The team, under the leadership of Serbian coach Zekia Milosavevich, also brought on board assistant coach Saad Salem, goalkeeper coach Nasser Al-Hajri, and team manager Mohammed Al-Awad.

Meanwhile, Al-Fahaheel secured Argentine professional Federico Pizarro and Croatian Sandro Abranovich. The club had previously enlisted Algerian coach Mohamed Masoudane to strengthen its coaching staff.Under the guidance of Tunisian coach Saber Abu Qafsha, Al-Sahel revealed three notable signings: Yemeni Jassem Al-Barak, Egyptian Muhannad Ani, and former Kuwait Club goalkeeper Mustafa Jadid.

Defending league champion Al-Kuwait Club faced goalkeeper challenges due to an injury to Hassan Safar. As a solution, they brought in Mohamed Boyabes from Burgan. Additionally, Burgan signed orange professional Semedo after parting ways with Egyptian Mostafa Bashir.

Fahd Al-Anzi, Director of Handball at Al-Sahel Club, emphasized the management’s commitment to infusing new talent into the team. The club aims to strike a balance between experienced players and promising youngsters, with a focus on building a competitive team for the present and future handball competitions.

The upcoming 2023-2024 season’s league format will feature a merger system involving 14 clubs. Notably, Al-Jahra and Al-Shabab withdrew for this season. The teams will engage in a single-round competition, with the top six qualifying for a title showdown in a two-division league. The remaining teams will compete for positions from seventh to fourteenth.
