Hajj registration soars on Sahel as strict health guidelines apply
Kuwait’s Hajj delegation is fully operational as pilgrims arrive in Makkah.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced that 21,500 people have applied to perform Hajj rituals for the 1447 AH Hajj season through the unified government e-services application (Sahel) since the start of the registration period. Director of the Hajj and Umrah Affairs Department at the ministry Sattam Al-Muzain posted on the ‘X’ platform that this number of applicants was registered after only four days of opening the registration. Moreover, the ministry has laid down the health requirements and guidelines for travelers from Kuwait to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Hajj 1447 AH.

Based on information provided by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the pilgrims must declare that they are free of diseases that affect their minimum physical ability to perform Hajj. Diseases that prevent a person from performing Hajj rituals include vital organ failure, chronic lung diseases that require oxygen, heart failure whose symptoms appear at rest or with minimal effort, late-onset chronic blood diseases, and neuromotor disabilities that affect cognition and motor impairment. The ministry stressed the need to prevent patients suffering from the aforementioned diseases from registering, warning that if they register without adhering to these instructions, their application will be cancelled.

Regarding the recommended vaccinations before traveling to perform Hajj, the ministry clarified that certain categories of those wishing to perform Hajj or undertake seasonal work are required to prove their immunization against COVID-19 before traveling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It stated that the health authorities in the Kingdom might take additional preventive measures at the ports of entry for those arriving from countries deemed vulnerable to health risks. The ministry indicated that the registration for those wishing to perform Hajj continues until Nov 22 through the Sahel app. It added that registration will be held for several seasons until all registered pilgrims are sorted through the system, and the registrants shall retain their lottery ranking until the nomination request is received.
