LOS ANGELES, Oct 18, (Agencies): Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about how she prepared her children for her divorce from Chris Martin. In an interview, the Goop founder, aged 51, shared her unique approach, explaining that she embarked on a "data collection" journey, seeking insights from individuals who had experienced their parents' divorces. She wanted to ensure she navigated her own divorce from the Coldplay singer, aged 46, in a way that would be least traumatic for her two kids with Martin, Apple, aged 19, and Moses, aged 17.
Paltrow expressed her pride in her children, describing them as grounded, grateful, and humorous. She emphasized that both she and Chris Martin were determined to shield their kids from the emotional turmoil of their separation. She states, "We knew it would be hard, of course, but we didn't want them to ever feel caught in the middle or witness one of us criticizing the other."
She shared her personal approach to dealing with this challenging situation: "At that time, I did something quite characteristic of myself. When I realized I wanted to get a divorce, I embarked on this 'data collection' phase by speaking to adults who had grown up with divorced parents." She went on to reveal the significant insight she gained from these conversations.
"Every single one of them said, 'I didn't care that my parents got divorced. That wasn't it. But the fact that they couldn't speak to each other, that they couldn't sit at a dinner table together for my birthday...' They said that was the most awful thing," Paltrow recalled. "You could see they held it with so much hurt and anger. I was like, 'That's what I'm never going to do.' And we really didn't."
Later in the interview, when inquired about the traits her children inherited from her, she noted, "I think Moses got his deliberation from me, and Apple, her sense of humor."
