Gunmen Open Fire on Container Ship in Failed Boarding Attempt Off Yemen

LONDON, June 15: The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported an attempted boarding incident involving a container vessel approximately 14 nautical miles south of the Yemeni coast.

According to the report, a small skiff approached the vessel before individuals on board opened fire and attempted to board the ship.

No immediate information was released regarding injuries, damage to the vessel, or whether the boarding attempt was successful.

UKMTO said authorities are investigating the incident and monitoring the situation.

The maritime security agency advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and remain vigilant, urging crews to report any suspicious activity or security-related incidents to UKMTO.

The latest incident underscores ongoing security concerns in regional waters, a key shipping corridor connecting the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and wider international maritime trade routes.
