Gulf states condemn Iranian missile attack on UAE’s ADNOC vessel in Strait of Hormuz

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8: The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait have strongly condemned an Iranian missile attack targeting a vessel operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE said no injuries were reported and described the attack as a “blatant violation” of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. Abu Dhabi stressed the importance of freedom of navigation and the protection of commercial shipping in international waterways.

The UAE Foreign Ministry warned that using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for “economic pressure or blackmail” poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security. It called on Iran to halt such attacks, comply with the cessation of hostilities and allow the strait to reopen “fully and unconditionally.”

Qatar also condemned the attack, describing it as an Iranian missile strike on a UAE oil tanker operated by ADNOC.

Saudi Arabia called the incident an assault on freedom and safety of navigation and global energy supplies, saying Iran’s continued attacks constitute a “grave violation” of international law and Resolution 2817. Riyadh held Iran responsible for the consequences of continued attacks and demanded their immediate cessation, while reaffirming full solidarity with the UAE.

Kuwait likewise strongly condemned what it described as “reprehensible Iranian aggression” against the ADNOC vessel, saying the attack directly threatens maritime security, freedom of navigation and global energy supplies.

Kuwait called for an immediate halt to escalating actions and urged adherence to international law governing freedom and safety of navigation. It also reaffirmed its full solidarity with the UAE and support for measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security and interests.
