NEW DELHI, Nov 27: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ambassadors in India convened in New Delhi on Wednesday to advance efforts to strengthen Gulf-India relations, focusing on coordinated positions that serve the shared interests of both sides.
The meeting was held at the invitation of Kuwait’s Ambassador to India, Meshal Mustafa Al-Shemali, in his capacity as the current chair of the GCC Ambassadors Council. Envoys reviewed the state of GCC-India ties and discussed practical steps to reinforce cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Ambassador Al-Shemali said the attending diplomats praised Kuwait’s efforts during its presidency of the GCC Council’s 45th session, describing it as a “significant milestone” that reflected the progress of joint Gulf action and reaffirmed the principles on which the GCC was founded.
He noted that the meeting provided a platform to exchange Gulf perspectives on how to enhance collective action to address current challenges and build a more stable and prosperous future for GCC nations and their people.
Talks also covered recent developments at the local, regional, and international levels, as well as updates on the GCC-India free trade agreement. Envoys stressed the need to deepen economic and trade relations with India, boost mutual investments, and expand cooperation in food security, cybersecurity, energy, trade, education, and modern technologies.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassadors of Bahrain Abdulrahman Al-Qaoud, Oman Issa Al-Shaibani, Qatar Mohammad Al-Jaber, and Saudi Arabia Haitham Al-Maliki, and by the UAE Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires Abdulaziz Al-Hashemi.
