KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: As preparations gather pace for the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon, Gulf Bank introduced the 10 winners of its third consecutive Gulf Bank Challenge at a press conference bringing together all participants, program partners, and media. Selected from 260 applicants, the winners shared the inspiring stories behind their commitment to a healthier lifestyle as they prepare for a six-week training and nutrition program ahead of Kuwait’s only internationally accredited marathon.
The announcement also extended an invitation to the wider community to join the marathon on November 30, with registration still open across four distances: the 5K walk or run, 10K run, 21K half marathon, and 42K full marathon. From experienced athletes to first-time participants and those who prefer to walk, the event welcomes everyone to get active and experience Kuwait’s community spirit.
The 10 Challenge participants represent different ages, experiences, and fitness levels, with the youngest aged 20. Their ambitions range from completing their first five kilometers and preparing for longer distances to returning to running after a break and making exercise a consistent part of everyday life.
Over the next six weeks, participants will receive training led by Coach Mohammed AlHathal, memberships at Platinum Gym, sportswear and equipment from Intersport, and nutrition support from Numou. Together, these partners will help participants work toward their individual goals while developing habits they can maintain beyond race day.
Najla Aleisa, Chief Marketing Officer at Gulf Bank, said: “We are delighted to welcome our 10 participants to the third Gulf Bank Challenge. Among the 260 applications, we found stories that many people will relate to: wanting to prioritize their health, return to exercise, or discover what they are capable of achieving. We chose these participants because their willingness to begin could encourage others to do the same.”
She added: “We are very happy to witness a positive change in lifestyles, with people becoming more health-conscious and making sport part of their everyday routines, especially the younger generation. Through the Challenge and the marathon, we want to support that momentum and create more opportunities for people to get involved.”
During the event, participants spoke about their reasons for joining the Challenge and the milestones they hope to achieve. Their stories reflected the different starting points that bring people to sport and the importance of encouragement and support in helping them continue.
Aleisa said: “As our participants share their progress, including the difficult days and small achievements, we hope others will recognize something of themselves in these experiences. The marathon provides a goal to work toward, while the confidence, friendships, and healthy habits developed along the way can last well beyond the finish line.”
Supporting Lasting Community Well-being
The Gulf Bank Challenge reflects the social dimension of the Bank’s sustainability commitment by encouraging lasting lifestyle changes and wider community participation. Its focus on physical activity and well-being aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well-being, while its collaborative approach reflects the spirit of SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals.
By bringing together participants, coaches, fitness and nutrition partners, the initiative demonstrates how shared expertise and resources can help individuals take practical steps toward healthier lives.
An Invitation to Run, Walk, and Connect
The Gulf Bank 642 Marathon offers opportunities for people with different interests and fitness levels to participate. Those who prefer walking are welcome to join the 5K walk or run, enjoy the atmosphere, and share the experience with family and friends.
“Everyone is welcome to be part of the day,” Aleisa said. “Whether you are aiming for a personal best, taking part in your first event, or walking five kilometers with friends, you have a place in this community. Seeing people encourage one another and celebrate each other’s achievements is one of the most rewarding aspects of the marathon.”
Aleisa thanked all Gulf Bank Marathon sponsors and Challenge partners for their continued support. She also recognized Suffix, the marathon organizer, represented at the conference by Ahmed AlMajed, for its efforts in delivering the event and developing the participant experience.
