Green Island set for major tourism overhaul

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: The Tourism Enterprises Company (TEC) held a press conference to announce the Green Island development project, in cooperation with Integrated Global Services for General Trading and Contracting. The conference was attended by Minister of Information Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Manal Al-Asfour, CEO of TEC Eng. Anwar Al-Halila, and Vice Chair and CEO of Abaad Real Estate Group Khaled Najib Al-Marzouq. A visual presentation outlining the Green Island development plan was shown during the conference, highlighting its role in supporting and advancing Kuwait’s tourism and entertainment sector.

Minister of Information Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi underscored the importance of the project, describing it as one of the country’s promising national tourism projects that reflects an ambitious vision to modernize recreational facilities and enhance Kuwait’s appeal as a comprehensive tourist and cultural destination. In his speech during the conference, he explained that the project aligns with the state’s priorities to ensure optimal investment in vital sites with environmental and heritage value, transforming them into assets that contribute to society and the national economy.

The project’s objective is not limited to developing a recreational site, as it aims to provide a comprehensive visitor experience based on clear operational standards that emphasize quality, safety, and accessibility. Environmental sustainability is central to the project’s design and operation, through practical solutions for resource conservation, waste management, and the preservation of the site’s natural elements, ensuring its longterm impact for future generations.

Such projects receive the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah. This support represents a fundamental pillar for accelerating tourism development and strengthening its role in diversifying the national economy and improving quality of life.

Minister Al-Mutairi stressed that the Ministry of Information works based on an executive vision built on partnership and integration with government entities, the private sector, and civil society. He affirmed that the success of major projects can only be achieved through unified efforts, coordinated messaging, and accomplishments. Minister Al-Mutairi highlighted that the ministry is giving special attention to developing the tourism promotion system and strengthening Kuwait’s regional and international presence through modern digital initiatives, most notably the “Visit Kuwait” platform, which serves as a comprehensive window showcasing the country’s tourism, cultural, and heritage assets.

Meanwhile, CEO of TEC Eng. Anwar Al-Halila expressed his delight to welcome attendees to Green Island, describing it as one of the company’s most important facilities and a prominent landmark that carries deep historical value and reflects a continued commitment to preserving national heritage and reinforcing its role in sustainable development. Al-Halila explained that Green Island, the first artificial island in the region since its opening in 1988, has for decades played a major role as a recreational and cultural destination for families and visitors, and is an integral part of Kuwait’s national tourism memory.
