ATHENS, Jul 25: A Patriot air defence system operated by Greek military personnel in Saudi Arabia intercepted two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen toward oil refineries in Yanbu on Saturday, Greek security sources told Reuters.
The sources said the missiles were successfully shot down over Saudi territory before reaching their intended targets.
Greek military personnel are currently deployed in Saudi Arabia to operate a Patriot air defence battery as part of security cooperation with the kingdom.
The attempted missile attack comes amid continued regional tensions and repeated threats against Saudi Arabia from Yemen-based Houthi forces, who have previously targeted Saudi energy infrastructure with missiles and drones.
