Grace Period Ends for Unlicensed Weapons, Kuwait Warns of Strict Enforcement

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 9: The Ministry of Interior has announced the conclusion of an exceptional grace period allowing citizens to surrender unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and explosives, effective Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The initiative was introduced to give individuals an opportunity to regularize their legal status while strengthening public safety and national security.

In an official statement, the ministry expressed appreciation for the strong public response, thanking citizens who voluntarily handed over unlicensed weapons during the period. Authorities said the cooperation reflects a high level of awareness and responsibility, as well as a commitment to supporting security efforts and maintaining stability.

With the grace period now over, the ministry warned that authorities will strictly enforce the law against anyone found in possession or use of unlicensed weapons. Officials emphasized that violations will be dealt with firmly in accordance with existing regulations.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country and ensuring continued security through decisive legal action.
