KUWAIT CITY, Oct 24: A Kuwaiti citizen employed as a manager in a government agency has been accused of fraud and deception after admitting that he received KD 5,400 from a woman for the sale of a vehicle but failed to deliver the car or return the money.
According to a security source, the incident began when a female Kuwaiti citizen filed a complaint at the Al Shab Police Station, stating that she had seen an advertisement for a vehicle on social media and contacted the seller, who was later identified as a government employee. After inspecting the vehicle and agreeing to purchase it for KD 5,400, the woman transferred the amount via a bank link sent to her by the seller.
She expected to receive the vehicle soon after the transaction, but was surprised when the seller stopped responding to her calls and messages. Upon trying to reach him again, she discovered that he had blocked her on both phone and WhatsApp. The complainant then provided all the relevant information about the suspect, including his identity and the transaction details, to the police.
The case was referred to the Hawally Investigations Department, which summoned the suspect for questioning. During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had indeed received the money from the complainant for the sale of an Infiniti car, but claimed that the buyer was the one who had blocked him on WhatsApp and that the transaction had not been completed.
However, when the complainant was called to the station and confronted with the suspect, he eventually confessed to blocking her and acknowledged that he had failed to transfer ownership of the vehicle. He further admitted that due to financial difficulties, he was unable to refund the amount or complete the sale.
The authorities subsequently charged the man with fraud and deception, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
Security sources emphasized that the incident serves as a warning to the public to exercise caution when purchasing vehicles or making financial transactions through social media, especially with individuals not known to them personally.
