KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: The Kuwaiti Cabinet held its weekly meeting on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Bayan Palace, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister.
Following the meeting, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Sharida Abdullah Al-Maousherji, briefed the media on the outcomes.
The Cabinet was updated on the official visit of His Excellency Bachir Djouma Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, and his talks with His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in the presence of His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and the Prime Minister. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in all fields, and reviewing regional and international developments of mutual interest.
The Cabinet extended congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman on the fifth anniversary of his accession to the throne, wishing continued health and prosperity for the Sultan and the Omani people.
His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, briefed the Cabinet on the recent visit of Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. Talks focused on security cooperation, coordination, and experience-sharing, highlighting the strong fraternal ties and ongoing development between Kuwait and Bahrain.
The Cabinet reviewed a presentation by Dr. Subaih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance, and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, on the national anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing system. The presentation highlighted legislative reforms, operational improvements, and international cooperation. The Cabinet commended Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem and the Kuwaiti Financial Intelligence Unit for their efforts and affirmed full support.
The Cabinet examined the 2025 performance report of the Unified Government Application for Electronic Services (Sahel), presented by Minister of State for Communications, Omar Saud Al-Omar. The report showed over three million users, 52 million digital transactions, and 59 new services, reflecting Kuwait’s progress in digital government transformation. The Cabinet praised technical teams and directed continued enhancements to improve user experience and integration among government entities.
The Cabinet also reviewed the (Qaid) project, presented by Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khalifa Abdullah Al-Ajil Al-Askar. The project, a national system for electronic filing of financial statements using the XBRL standard, is designed to enhance governance, transparency, and decision-making. Voluntary application began January 1, 2026, with mandatory adoption set for January 2027. The Cabinet praised the ministry’s efforts and highlighted the project’s positive impact on Kuwait’s business environment.
The Cabinet reviewed the minutes of the Ministerial Committee for Public Services, noting challenges faced by governorates and solutions proposed by governors. It directed government agencies to cooperate with governors, address obstacles, and appoint liaison officers. The Central Agency for Information Technology will establish electronic communication systems linking governorates and state agencies, while the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development will keep governorates informed of development plan projects.
The Cabinet approved the minutes of the Higher Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Verification, including cases of loss and withdrawal of citizenship under Law No. 15 of 1959 and its amendments. Several other agenda items were approved, while some were referred to ministerial committees for further study and reporting.
