Golden day for Kuwait at Gulf Games in Doha

DOHA, May 16 (KUNA): Kuwait continued its impressive run at the 4th Gulf Games in Doha, collecting three gold, five silver, and two bronze medals on the fourth day of competition. The Games will continue until May 22 with the participation of around 1,400 athletes from GCC countries.

In shooting, Kuwait claimed gold in the men’s skeet team event through Saud Al-Kandari, Mohammad Al-Daihani, and Abdulaziz Al-Saad, finishing ahead of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait Shooting Federation President Duaij Al-Otaibi congratulated the country’s leadership, the Public Authority for Sports (PAS), and all those who contributed to the team’s successful participation.

Al-Otaibi praised the shooters for their achievement, expressing pride in the team’s continued excellence at both regional and international levels.

The GCC Games feature around 1,400 athletes representing the six Gulf nations across a variety of sports competitions.

Mohammad Awwad added a silver medal in the individual skeet competition, while the women’s skeet duo of Afrah Mohammad and Fatima Al-Zaabi secured bronze.

Kuwait also celebrated success in fencing as the women’s épée team, consisting of Fawzia Al-Rifai, Fatima Qassem, and Yasmin Al-Shawaf, captured gold after defeating the UAE in the final. The men’s foil team of Ali Al-Nassar, Abdulwahab Mohammad, and Yaqoub Al-Shatti earned bronze.

In equestrian events, Ali Al-Kharafi won silver in the individual 145cm competition behind UAE rider Abdullah Al-Mehairi, while Qatar’s Bassem Mohammed finished third. Hussein Al-Kharafi narrowly missed the podium in fourth place.

Vice President of the Kuwait Equestrian Federation (KEF) Shaker Al-Kazemi praised the strong performances delivered by Kuwait’s national equestrian team during the ongoing Gulf Games in Doha.

Speaking in a press statement on Friday, Al-Kazemi congratulated Kuwaiti equestrian fans following the achievement of international rider and Gulf and Asian champion Ali Al-Kharafi, who secured the silver medal in the individual 145cm event.

Al-Kazemi highlighted the depth of talent within Kuwaiti equestrian sport, noting that the country boasts some distinguished riders across various categories.

Athletics brought further success for Kuwait, with Yaqoub Al-Youha taking gold in the men’s 110m hurdles. Abdullah Al-Azmi secured silver in the men’s long jump, Abdulrahman Al-Azmi finished second in the javelin throw, and Al-Gazi Farhan claimed silver in the women’s heptathlon.

The Gulf Games feature competitions across several sports, including volleyball, athletics, taekwondo, karate, shooting, fencing, and handball.
