KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18: Kuwait Customs authorities foiled two separate attempts to smuggle a total of 855 grams of 24-karat gold through Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 4, seizing the precious metal from two Asian passengers, according to the General Administration of Customs.
Customs inspectors became suspicious of the passengers during departure procedures and conducted searches that led to the discovery of the concealed gold.
In the first case, officers seized 353 grams of pure 24-karat gold that had been cast into the shape of a belt buckle and coated in black to conceal its true nature.
In the second case, customs officials recovered 502 grams of gold. The seizure included a 340-gram gold belt buckle that had also been plated black, along with a 162-gram bracelet made of linked rings that had been coated with silver in an apparent attempt to disguise it as another material.
Customs authorities are preparing official reports against the suspects and documenting the seized items before referring the cases to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
The seizures highlight ongoing efforts by Kuwait Customs to detect and prevent attempts to smuggle valuable goods through the country’s entry and exit points
