PUNE, Jun 19: A self-proclaimed godman in Pune has been arrested along with seven associates for allegedly sexually exploiting and abusing a woman for several years, forcing her to cut ties with her family and subjecting her to extreme physical and psychological torture.

Police identified the accused as Radheshyam Mishra, also known as Radhamohan Mishra, who ran what he called a “modern gurukul” in the Ubale Nagar area of Wagholi, Pune. Investigators allege that Mishra portrayed himself as a divine figure and used his influence to manipulate followers.

According to police, the woman came into contact with Mishra around 2010. Over the following years, he allegedly isolated her from her family, pressured her to divorce her husband, and exploited her between 2010 and 2016. Investigators said she was subjected to sexual abuse, physical assault, electric shocks and other forms of torture, reports NDTV.

Police allege that Mishra recorded obscene videos of the woman and used them to blackmail her and threaten her family. He and his associates allegedly convinced followers that he possessed supernatural powers and forced the woman to perform acts of humiliation, including drinking his urine. The woman was also allegedly compelled to commit theft to benefit Mishra and his ashram.

During a raid on the ashram, police recovered a large quantity of electronic devices and other material from an underground room. Authorities seized 12 laptops, 11 mobile phones, 19 hard drives, several pen drives and cassettes, along with cash worth ₹6.5 lakh and jewellery valued at around ₹15 lakh. A stock of medicinal pills and drugs was also found, leading police to expand their investigation.

A forensic examination of the seized electronic devices is underway as authorities search for further evidence and possible additional victims.

Mishra and seven associates, including his close aide Kanwal Nayan, have been arrested. Police said they suspect more survivors may come forward as the investigation continues.

The eight accused were produced before a court and remanded to police custody until Saturday. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
