ABU DHABI, May 5: The United Arab Emirates has said growing international condemnation of recent attacks on its territory underscores Iran’s role as the aggressor in the escalating regional crisis.
UAE presidential advisor Anwar Gargash stated on X that widespread global solidarity with the UAE reflects a firm international commitment to a rules-based order that rejects what he described as “rogue actions” and holds those responsible accountable.
“These positions confirm that Iran is the aggressor, responsible for escalating the crisis in the Gulf, and the source of danger and a threat to its security and stability,” Gargash wrote.
The remarks came as several countries issued strong statements condemning the attacks. Cyprus expressed solidarity with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing support for de-escalation, international law, and regional stability. President Nikos Christodoulides said the security of the Gulf is directly linked to European security.
Canada also condemned the attacks, with Prime Minister Mark Carney calling them “unprovoked” and reaffirming support for the UAE leadership and its people. He praised defensive efforts aimed at protecting civilians and infrastructure.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters similarly denounced the strikes, warning that they violated ceasefire understandings and could derail ongoing peace efforts. He urged all parties to de-escalate and respect international humanitarian law, stressing that “the conflict will not be resolved through drones and missiles.”
The coordinated international response highlights growing diplomatic pressure on Tehran as tensions in the Gulf continue to rise.
