LOS ANGELES, Sept 26, (Agencies): Eight months ahead of its UK premiere, the concert film capturing Taylor Swift's monumental Eras tour is set to grace British cinemas this October. "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" will make its debut in over 100 countries on October 13, coinciding with its previously announced release in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
The film was recorded during the initial three out of six nights of Swift's performances at the SoFi Stadium in California in August. On its very first day of US presales, it achieved a record-breaking $37 million (£30.3 million) in sales. Directed by Sam Wrench, known for directing concert films for artists like Billie Eilish and Lizzo, the production is independently produced by Taylor Swift Productions. With a runtime of 165 minutes, it's likely that the film won't encompass the entirety of the Eras tour setlist, which consists of 44 songs and spans over three hours. No additional details regarding the film's contents have been disclosed.
In the US, adult tickets are priced at $19.89 as a nod to Swift's forthcoming re-recorded version of her 2014 album "1989," while child and senior tickets are set at $13.13, paying homage to the songwriter's lucky number. In the UK, concert tickets ranged from £58 for seating to well over £660 for the top-tier VIP package.
"The Eras Tour" movie marks Swift's fourth concert film, following previous documentaries showcasing her albums "Fearless," "1989," and "Reputation." It also includes a film of her sole concert performance to promote her 2019 album "Lover," a tour that was disrupted by the pandemic.
In 2020, Swift released "Miss Americana," a behind-the-scenes documentary directed by Lana Wilson that chronicled her journey from 2018 to 2019. The documentary delved into Swift's emergence as a political voice, her struggles with body dysmorphia and an eating disorder, and her mother's battle with cancer.
Swift is venturing into feature directing for Searchlight Pictures, although specific details remain undisclosed. She has directed or co-directed all of her music videos since "Me!" in 2019.
The Eras tour is scheduled to hit the UK in June 2024 for a sold-out series of shows, commencing in Edinburgh. While ticket sales in the UK were less tumultuous than in the US, where Ticketmaster's practices triggered a government antitrust hearing, many fans still expressed frustration with an opaque ticketing system that revealed prices only at the final checkout stage, giving buyers just 90 seconds to decide whether to proceed.
