BERLIN, May 5: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has condemned Iran’s attack on the United Arab Emirates and called for an immediate return to diplomatic negotiations.
In a statement posted on X, Merz expressed solidarity with Germany’s regional partners and warned against further escalation. “Tehran must return to the negotiating table and stop taking the region and the world hostage,” he said, urging an end to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
He also stressed that Iran must not pursue nuclear weapons and called for an end to threats and attacks against allied nations, underscoring growing international pressure for de-escalation in the Gulf.
