KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kuwait, Hans-Christian Freiherr von Reibnitz, praised on Sunday Kuwait’s pivotal role in promoting regional and international peace and stability, as well as the strong and growing friendship between the two nations.
This came during a reception hosted by the German Embassy in Kuwait to commemorate German Unity Day — Germany’s National Day, marked annually on October 3. The event was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Nader Al-Jalal, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshal Al-Sabah, along with several heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations.
In his speech, Ambassador von Reibnitz highlighted that relations between Germany and Kuwait are built on mutual respect and shared values. He referred to the strategic dialogue framework signed between the two countries last year and the exchange of high-level official visits, which, he said, reflect “a constructive and forward-looking partnership.”
He expressed optimism that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand across various fields, while commending the efforts of Kuwaiti and German officials who have contributed to strengthening these ties.
Addressing the significance of the occasion, Ambassador von Reibnitz recalled the historic events of November 9, 1989, when peaceful demonstrations in East Germany led to the fall of the Berlin Wall — a moment that symbolized the triumph of unity, freedom, and peaceful change.
“Peace was achieved through the will of the people and their aspiration for unity and freedom,” he said, noting that this spirit continues to inspire Germany’s engagement with partners such as Kuwait in fostering peace and stability worldwide.
