New York, Apr 16: Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Ambassador Tariq Al-Banai, delivered a joint statement on behalf of Bahrain, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait during a UN General Assembly session convened under the veto initiative mechanism following the use of vetoes by Russia and China against a draft resolution on securing maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz at the Security Council on April 7, 2026.

The statement firmly rejected any threats to freedom of navigation, warning that such actions could have serious repercussions for global energy security and supply chains. The participating states stressed the importance of upholding international law and ensuring the safety and security of key maritime routes. They also announced continued collective diplomatic efforts, including the submission of a new draft resolution aimed at strengthening maritime security and safeguarding international peace and stability.
