GCC ministers discuss countering anti-Islam campaigns – Joint action urged to boost Awqaf, Islamic Affairs cooperation

RIYADH, April 18, (KUNA): A ministerial meeting held in Riyadh on Sunday stressed the role of ministries of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the GCC for defending Islam against media campaigns that distort the religion, its values and teachings.

The third meeting of the GCC ministers of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs underlined the momentousness of highlighting Islamic values of moderation, as well as combating terrorist and extremist groups and boosting ties among the bloc’s universities and research and studies centers. The meeting was attended by Minister of Justice and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanea. It was chaired by Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments Call and Guidance Saleh bin Abdul Aziz Aal Ash-Shaikh.

The ministers called in their statements to the meeting, for exerting further efforts to bolster the GCC joint action, and cooperation in Awqaf and Islamic affairs. Addressing the discussions, GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al-Zayani, lauded the continuous and tangible efforts being lavished to enhance joint GCC action and Awqaf cooperation.

Islam and the Muslim people have been the target of malicious media campaigns prompted by a rise in the hatred and extremism discourse, in the wake of attacks committed by terrorist groups that have nothing to do with Islam, Al-Zayani.
