Kuwait hosts GCC workshop to draft anti-money laundering strategy.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 8: A regional workshop to draft the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strategy to combat money laundering began Monday in Kuwait, organized by the GCC Secretariat and hosted by the Ministry of Interior. The event will continue until September 11.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry said the workshop aims to establish a unified strategic framework to strengthen security and regulatory cooperation among GCC countries, while aligning with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Middle East and North Africa FATF (MENAFATF).

The ministry noted that participants include experts from interior ministries, judicial and regulatory authorities, central banks, and financial institutions across the GCC, along with representatives of relevant international organizations.

The workshop represents a key step in protecting Gulf financial systems from the risks of money laundering and related crimes, the ministry affirmed, adding that its outcomes will form the basis of the upcoming GCC anti-money laundering strategy.
