GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi

NICOSIA, April 25: Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, participated in an informal summit between the European Union and key regional partners in Nicosia, where he underscored the strategic importance of the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Albudaiwi highlighted ongoing coordination with international partners to safeguard the free and secure flow of maritime navigation through the vital waterway, reaffirming GCC countries’ strong backing for global initiatives aimed at maintaining stability and uninterrupted shipping in the region.

He also said any comprehensive agreement with Iran must go beyond its nuclear program to also address its ballistic missile capabilities and the activities of regional proxy groups.

He warned that any disruption or closure of the Strait of Hormuz would have immediate repercussions for Europe’s energy security and critical sectors, including aviation, stressing the need for deeper coordination with European partners to safeguard stable energy supplies.
